Busy day yesterday. We set off to Marsha;;'s Fabric store on the southside of the city. I went there to pick up some large spools of thread. They are much cheaper there than anywhere else. That accomplished we headed to WEM to pick up new crocs. With the problems with my feet, knees and hips, Crocs are the most comfortable footwear for me. Our last pair of crocs lasted three years ! I had bought a new pair to wear in the hospital - and then found out that no, I needed lace up shoes ! I wear them every day so I certainly got my money's worth out of them.
We popped into TNT but I found the prices even more expensive than our usual grocery store. Disappointed there. We set off for The Wholesalers and again I was disappointed so we drove back home and did our grocery shopping where we do 90% of our shopping. Firstly though we stopped at a Walmart on the west end of the city and I found the colours that I was looking for. I tried on a couple of bras and two clearance items, but they were all too big. As Hubby was, as usual, chomping at the bit, I gave up and will go by myself later on. It's been 3 or 4 years since I have bought bras !!
Because I cleaned the downstairs freezer, we didn't pick up any meat. Just fruit, veggies and cheese with a few other items. It is so nice to have fresh fruit and veggies because the crisper a were empty for a few days !! For lunch I had cucumber. It was lovely !
While Hubby and YS had chilli for supper, I stripped the rotisserie chicken and made soup. That will be for our lunch today. For supper, we'll have ham, potato salad, coleslaw, devilled eggs and corn on the cob. In the cooler weather next week, I will make s one recipes from the Outlander Kitchen. Today is to be near 30* C so the oven will not be turned on.
While watching the Democratic Convention I worked on my quilt. I have had to make some more hexagons in the green gingham to complete the centre blocks. Thank goodness I had a few scraps left ! I've decided I need to finish the 28 blocks before I finish the last three stockings.
YS has gone to work today. The medication was quite harsh on his system.ED went to Diner en Blanc last night. Looks like she had a good time. ES is going up to Slave Lake to do some fishing. The other grandparents are going to look after him. Hmm 4 days....They are exhausted after one day !
This morning will be a toss up - outside or down in the basement.

And We're Home !
The trip home was uneventful which is always a good thing. The gate was open, ready for us to back in.Thanks YS !! And the lawn had been mown so the yard looked good. Lots of growth on the plants. It is amazing how much a garden can change in just a few short days !
The first day home was spent doing washing, cleaning the trailer and car, disinfecting water carriers !! We still cannot find the clothes line and clothes pins. I know I saw them before we packed up. I'll get in there this week and do another 'sweep' of the trailer. Hubby degreased the camp stove so we're all set if we set off again this summer.
At. Baseball, ES was hit in the nose by a baseball. They were at the hospital til around 11:30 to make sure it was broken. Then YS had a doctor's appointment-- he has an inflamed ligament which attaches to the pelvic area. ( But the mess seem to be too harsh as he is in pain from the mess this am.) This afternoon he goes for an Ultrasound to make sure it is not a hernia.
Yesterday I cleaned the downstairs freezer as someone had not shut the door completely and there was some ice build up. It needed to be done anyway. It is all organized. ( Since I had had my knee operation and the other knee needs one, I have not often been down into the basement. No matter what anyone else says, it was not organized ! Hubby would buy meat because he couldn't find what he wanted in the freezer -- or he left it too late to defrost so he bought new meat ! ) We will not have to buy meat for 3 or 4 months !! Good thing we like ham - I have three of them ! And yes, there IS bacon !
Also the basement is an absolute disgrace. While I was recuperating from my knee surgery, the basement flooded again. Boxes, junk, everywhere ! My goal this year is to redo the basement so it is again livable and I can get Hubby out of the living room. There is no way we could sell the house with it being the way it is and we need to get rid of JUNK ! I am going to try and work a little bit each day to start the process.
We also need to put down the rest of the bricks by the side of the shed. I think by now the ground has settled and we need it to be safer to get under the lean to and clean up near the shed. We old people just need to do things slowly and quit before we hurt !
I have a list of things that I want to accomplish this summer and winter. Guess I'll have to let Hubby in on my plans.
Today we might go in to price Crocs- it's been three years since we last bought ours. Some models are cheaper on line so we'll see what happens. We also have NO veggies in the house so we need to pick some up. Only the peas are ready to eat right now which we had the other night and they were delicious. I also want to pick up sugar as I think I will make some jellies as I have crabapple juice as well as sour cherry juice. Our sour cherries are nearing perfection so we'll have to pick and use them.
Til everyone gets up, I'll soak my feet and do some hand sewing. I still need to. Pick up a few colours of wool to finish my stocking order. So much to do and summer is half over ! Yikes !!
Camping In The Foothills of the Rockies
We set off with no problems on the way except for a warning that a tire had lost pressure. Fortunately we were just a couple of km from Tomahawk so we were able to check. One tire, the last checked of course, had lost 3 or 4 psi. That done, we continued on our way. After a stop in Rocky Mountain House for gas and an ice cream, we made out way to Fish Lake Campground. We chose a site, but we're not thrilled. We dropped the trailer and headed down the highway to Gold Eye Campground. I think we were out checking every empty campsite before we found one that would fit our of needs. So we paid for that site, drove back to the other campground and hitched up the trailer.
We set up the trailer and them waited for ES and ED to arrive. Hubby went to get water-----oh no ! The water is not potable ! Yikes ! First time in over 50 years of camping that we had been in a campground without water ! The toilets were just dry pits but there was the Hand sanitizer dispenser outside the cubicles. On the way to the toilets were the garbage bins, bear proof of course. Another camper said that as Hubby and YGS passed, their talking chased away a yearling bear ! Yikes ! When ED and ES arrived, they set up the kitchen tent and their tent and we were set !!
Hubby, ES and YGS did a fair amount of fishing. Hubby and ES were out in the kayak. ED and I read and took a trip to Crescent Falls. We also found where we could get water after buying new water carriers as ours were now contaminated with the pump water. Thank goodness ED had bought a huge case of water !!
We did try the 'ice cream' cones with marshmallows and chocolate chips. They were quite good, although YGS didn't care for them. WE also made 'insideout' knee pads which were delicious. Of course everything is better with bacon !
I spent time picking up garbage around the site. It had obviously not been cleaned for quite a while. I only did the edges although I spotted some farther in the bush. An old camp chair was by the side of the driveway. It was rusted so had been there a long time. Firewood times were not the best. By the time the weekend had arrived, the hand sanitizer had run out and was NOT replaced. The bathrooms were getting dirtier. Garbage was. Late being picked up. A group of young guys partied and drank 24/7-- no one ever came round to ask them to quiet down.
We would never go back to these campgrounds. No services and the cost was too high. The campsites and campground were not well kept. There would be no recommendation from us !
It was such a shame as one is surrounded by beauty,

Thunder ! And more Thunder !!!
Those series of thunder claps woke me at 4 am this morning ! I got up to see if there was a warning in place to not. Fortunately no warning, just a good ol thunderstorm. Hopefully the storm is moving east and we won't have to pass through any storms on the way to our new camping site.
Monday we had our two oldest grandchildren over as their mom was teaching yoga to the Evergreen Summer students. When my eldest son came over, they all went off to play Pokemon Go. He had 3 kids and two dogs ! LOL. After lunch, they decided to go off again to Jubilee Park which is a fair distance, expecially for YGD is not the outdoor walker the others are. But apparently they had a good time ! YD arrived and decided to wait here til they came back. She scrounged some perennial plants off me.
EGS ended up carrying the puppy Dexter home as he refused to walk. I am wondering if the pavement was too hot for his little paws ? To he has realized that it is a lot more fun to be carried than walking or hiking ! He is nearly six months so it might just be the laziness of his 'pugness' coming out !
I finally took down the cot in our bedroom. Our bedroom is very big. We have a queen sized bed, and can accommodate a cot and two sleeping mattresses, as well as bedroom furniture . When we have a sleepover, all the kids sleep with us upstairs. However, enough was enough and into. The closet it went ! I can get into my closet so easily now. Gradually I am getting some housework done and some decluttering.
I made a huge pot of child. After the meat was browning, I searched for a can of kidney beans or black beans. I had no cans ! I did have some dry kidney beans so I had to cook them up to use. There were at lest 30 cups of child divided into 3 containers. Two were frozen and one will come with us for Saturday night's supper. One was kept in the fridge for YS to use as he cannot get time off work.
Tuesday we threw on a couple of loads of wash and headed out to do some messages and grocery shopping. We stopped at Walmart to look for some wool. Why do they never have green !! I was only able to pick up a smaller ball of purple. We picked up a couple of treat and most of it was paid with a gift card that I have had for ages. One less gift card in my purse . Then we headed off to the Dollar store to find a colouring book and new booklet for YGS to draw and write in. I had him choose 5 of the books we bought at VV to bring to read in the car.
We only picked up necessary items , such as bananas for the car trip and some snacks. We forget that YGS eats constantly as did his father at the same age. I'll make a separate bag to keep in the front and dole out to him.
Most of the trailer is packed. WE just have to throw in one cooler and our clothes. We are bringing two bags and a crate of wood. ES and Hubby put the kayak on the car, but it stuck out just a little bit too far so they couldn't get the garage door closed. Oh well, it won't take them long to get that done this am before the hitch up the trailer. Then we'll be off ! Hoping to score a campsite.
ES got a fishing license and bought YGS his first fishing rod. I have my books and hand sewing so I am all set. The lake where we are hoping to go is stocked with rainbow trout so I am thinking I had better pack a lemon ! [ which I have done for years and Hubby has never caught a fish ! ]I had to rinse out and disinfect two of our water containers. It has been a long time since we've been at a campsite with only an old fashioned water pump ! As we will have no idea how far away we'll be from the pump, I decided 3 containers would be best . We might have to use a car to fill them up and drive them back !
And so off we go on another adventure !

A Sunday of Sewing
Plans were for a relaxing, slow Sunday. I was up watching Le Tour at 4:45 and what a good stage it was ! I was working on my English Piecing Quilt as I need to buy the accent colours before I finish the other 3 stockings.
Hubby , when he finally got up, was working on the trailer and then got his fishing gear out. Where we hope to go, there are lakes filled with Rainbow Trout and the creeks have Brown trout. Maybe I should even bring a lemon ! ES is going to pick up a license today and get YGS his own rod. Then, of course it rained so outside work on the trailer w as suspended.
ED came over with her hiking pants to hem, along with a pair of jeans to hem, a pair of jeans to have the zipper repaired, a Japanese kimono to be hemmed and a top to have repaired along the neckline[ which was a b*&# to do ! I worried about that top, but then thought she couldn't wear it the way it was so if I messed up, it was really no loss. But I got it all done ! I am not a confident seamstress so I do get stressed even when repairing. There is this fear of making a wrong cut , that I measured incorrectly. My shoulders get tensed up so much they actually hurt. Now neither of my daughters can sew. I don't know if they even know how to sew a button or hem anything ? Neither have them have had any interest in sewing or knitting. I asked ED what she's going to do when I am gone ?? When she was in Ottawa she s pent $10 to have a pair of pants hemmed. Now if you get some bargains like I do with jeans, the hemming would cost 3X as much as the cost of the jeans ! 5 changes of thread and now I must reorganize my thread box. It is nice to have the time to do all these little things, instead of just dumping and shoving away when time is a premium.
ED gave YGS a Samsung tablet that she had been given over 4 years ago. He is absolutely thrilled and certainly lets us know about the battery life and the fact that it is a Samsung ! Afterthe hot tub, he and his dad and uncle went off to the nearby park to catch a Pokemon. After supper my town kids went out to play Pokemon Go. At least it got them outside and I think they had fun. I was in bed by the time YS got home.
The rest of the day was spent reading. Good thing we bought all those books at Value Village.
Today our other two grandchildren will be over for 'a couple' of hours though we know it will be longer than that. I'll watch Le Tour, take down the cot in our room, do some handsewing and recheck my lists for camping. Tomorrow we'll do the wash, and go shopping. Or at least that's the plan !

Satisfying Saturday
It has been a satisfying day of work. I finally made breadcrumbs. During the year I will just grab a bag of stale bread and use the rolling pin because I can't be bothered getting out the Cuisinart. That was one job out of the way.
Next I hemmed Hubby's cargo pants we bought the other day as well as mending another pair. Onward and upward I hemmed the three new pair of jeans I bought the other day. Well new to me ! I was hoping ED would have brought her hiking pants over to hem, but they weren't even washed !
I cleaned the windows in the trailer. Hubby and ES were able to put up the hinge to the upper bunk. Hubby has also put foam insulation, caulking etc. So there's another job done !
ED came over this am to pick up her tents. One we will reuse this camping trip, but she'll be bringing a bigger sleeping tent. They had been left to dry in the garage as we have had so much rain. Not a day has gone by without a torrential down pour. Hopefully the weather will be better later this week while we're camping.
During the Tour today I finished the third stocking. Tonight will be spent reading and or doing my quilt. I'm tired !! Breaded chicken[ aren't I glad I did the breadcrumbs ! ], rice and salad. Better get a move on...

Sad
Such a sad day yesterday in Nice, France. Such carnage on a day where families were enjoying fireworks and family time. I have no words nor answers.
In Canada, much sadness in Alberta. A little girl was found dead after her mother had been found murdered on Monday. We were all following the search after the Amber Alert was broadcast. Why ?? Why kill a 5 year old child ? I just cannot comprehend the evilness in this world. As I cannot comprehend how a mother can abandon her child. It makes no sense to me. There is evil in this world.
I suppose we must deeply appreciate what we have, where we are and appreciate it all the more. We live in a small city that is ranked 18th out of 25 on the list of cities where it is good to invest, do business etc. 79% of citizens have at leasst a Bachelor's degree. It's a god place to live.
This is the view out my backdoor as I look out every morning. The Clematis is in full bloom. The hollyhocks, white, pink and burgundy are blooming away. This view makes me smile. My veggies are growing well, the roses are the bet they've ever been. Our lawn hasn't been this green or thick in years. We've had rain every day for a couple of weeks so we haven't had to bother watering. Rain always greens up everything so much better than watering. It will take another couple of years before our gardens are as I want them. We had to redo the front gardens lasst summer as the previous summer, all were destroyed when we had new weeping tile and a sump pump put in. Last summer, we took apart our pond and have been redoing the back yard gardens. There is never nothing to do in the gardens !
ED will be going to Spain and Portugal this Fall for a conference ! How lucky ! And it looks like she will be able to meet up with a Scottish friend in Spain. Two more countries to add to her list of at least 43 countries that she has visited.
The trailer window has now been repaired. Today the 'lining' - don't know really what to call it, will be reglued into place and the seams sealed. Then the seams will be covered. After that glue sets, I will get in and do a good clean. The screens were taken out so I want to do that front window from the inside. WE will be set for our next camping trip next week.
Yeterday I sewed YGS's poncho. I had left the collar without attaching it to the hood last Christmas. I had wanted him to put it on first to make sure the opening was big enough. Several times I was reminded that there were loose ends ! We also find out the sleeping bag was a down sleeping bag !! Also ES had said he thought he'd ask for a sleeping bag for next Christmas .... how weird is that ? that I prposely searched one out, not knowing he wanted one ! We noticcd that a zipper seam needed mended. Two minutes on the sewing machine and it was as good as new. YGS loved the raincoat, and it is reversible !
Yesterday as I was watching the Tour de France, I knit 10 more rows than I should have. What chaos and what stupid fans. I have helped out at the Tour of Alberta; now granted it is a small race, but people know enough to stand back and not obstruct the riders. I should be able to finish the second stocking this am while watching the time trials and start the third. Later today I may try to pick up the three accent colours I'll need for the last three.
This morning is bright and sunny with the promise of hot weather coming next week. Time for more weeding !!

Repairs, Bargains and Knitting
For the past two days Hubby and ES have been repairing the trailer. The wooden frame around the front window had rotted, and the hinge holding the upper bunk was no longer functional. They took down the inside layer and have almost finished putting in a new frame. It has to be screwed and glued in so it is sitting there with clamps. Once that is finished, the inner layer will be glued back on. Slow going but we need it to be secure and waterproof.
After they were finished what they were able to do today, Hubby and I went off to Value Village. I ws looking for a raincoat for YGS and a sleeping bag for ES. Score !!! Hubby found an Oshgosh rainjacket which ended up costing us $2.80 !!! The sleeping bag was $8.00. It is clean, no odours or tears .Hubby got another pair of cargo pants and I picked up 3 pairs of jeans [ one red ! ] and two light cardigans. Then we headed over to the books. Normally we haven't perused the books as they are ot in alphabetical order and your head is crooked scanning the shelves. However today we bought 5 hardcover books for YGS and 5 books for us- 3 hardcover and 2 pocket books. The deal is buy 4 get the fifth free. With our card, we got 30% off clothing purchases so bonus ! I am so pleased. The Oshgosh jacket should do him a couple of years.
Yesterday I started the Christmas stockings. I've one done and have started the next. I still need to pick up 3 accent colours. I was so hoping that I'd find some today, but no luck there.
The Tour de France was quite exciting today. I think the faster they ride, the faster I knit ! Tomorrow is a mountain stagae. I read that they are moving the finish line because of the weather. Should be interesting. As much as I like camping, I will be sad not watch the rest of the Tour live !! And there is no wifi so I can't even keep up ! :(

Camping in the Canadian Rockies
Camping in the Canadian Rockies ! Couldn't be anything better..
Wednesday, July 6 2016
We were all packed up and waited for ED to get away from work . At 2 pm we headed west. The weather was beautiful and a little boy was very excited. To keep him amused, I had packed three simple books in his back seat hanging pockets. He chose one, and with a little help [ meaning 'cues' , phonics] , YGS read his first book, souonding out the words. He was so excited, ' I read a book by myself ? I read my first book ! Did I really read a book ? By myself ? " " I can Read !!!"
Then ED 'made up' a game. She would say a word and he was to say a word that started with the final consonant of the word she said. This game went on for 5 days ! At first he sounded out every letter and then the final consonant. By the end he'd say the word and boom ! repeat the final consonant. This is grade two - three level, but he 'got' it and loved the game, often asking to play it.
We arrived at our campsite in William Switzer Provincial Park. We just had electrical, but were very near the water tap and near the bathrooms. WE wet up ED's tent for her and her two dogs, and then the kitchen tent which she had dubbed the Kids' Palace at her Canada Day party. We had rotisserie chicken, veggies and salad for supper, with fruit for dessert. YGS went to bed without a sound.

After a leisurely breakfast of bacon, eggs, toast, hot chocolate, coffee and tea, we set off for Jasper National Park. Just after the entrance we stopped to see a mouontain goat with her baby high on the cliff. In all my years of visiting the park, I had never seen one! There were plenty of mountain sheep on the road in different spots and a couple of youong female elk.
We made our way to Athabasca Falls and did the whole falls and going down by the river so YGS could build an Inuchuk. Dexter, the puppy went crazy digging in the wet sand. When we finished there, we made our way to Edith Cavell and Angel Glacier. Angel Glacier is shrinking ! The three, with the two dogs set off on a hike up and I peopled watched as it would have been too hard for me with my knees and hip. Besides, I had walked the Falls. The road up to Edith Cavell is very windy with many switchbacks. Poor youngest pup got carsick - but fortunately just into grandson's hat !! It was pure sand !
The next stop was Jasper itself. For some reason, YGS was so excited to be in Jasper- thouoght it was such an awesome town, the houses were so cute [ ? ] and it was so clean ! We walked a bit and everyone got an ice cream cone ! A delicious steak supper with baked potatoes with onion, salad , olives and beer for some, water for others. We sat around the fire for a bit and then off to bed for the youong one.

Another day with beautiful weather. WE decided on a simple breakfast of toast as we had a busy day planned. Without telling YGS where we were going, we headed to Whistlers. He was confused about climbing a mountain and hiking. We tried to say that when you 'climbed' a mountain, you were just 'hiking' up - not literally climbing up a wall face. I had saved money so we treated him to a SkyTram trip up. His face seeing the trams going up and down the mountain were priceless. So up we went with ED and I holding the pups. At first he was a little nervous of the heights, slight swaying and jerkiness at the tower. Up at the tram house, the three of them headed off to the summit. I people watched again. They made it up the 1.6km hike. ED had to carry the young 5 month old pup up as he refused to walk any more. And of course he had to be carried down. There was no way he was hiking any more ! YGS said to me, " I was on top of the world ! "
By the time we came down off the mountain, it was after 3 so we went into Jasper and picked up some KFC. So much for our healthy diet ! We stopped at a picnic spot and enjoyed sitting , eating surrounded by mountains. YGS had 3 pieces !
Next stop was the Miette Hot Springs. I dogsat and they spent an hour and a half in the pools getting a good hot shower afterwards. We returned late to the campsite, threw together a supper of leftovers and then sat around the fire. When I told the boy I would be getting his pj's out soon, he said " As soon as I get them on, I'll go to bed because I am tired. " He was in bed by 9:30 and didn't wake up til 8:30 the next morning.
Saturday July 9 2016
This was to be our lazy day, away from the crowds . We had boiled eggs and toast for breakfast. Park rangers came round to warn us of a mother bear with two cubs seen by the registration office. Hubby took the boy to the lake and playground. We read and managed to hotspot to keep an eye on the weather. Storms were predicted all day so we battened down the hatches but the weather was beautiful. ED found a geoache site so with the gps, she and YGS set off to find it. She only took Marley who is a little spitfire and loves to ' go' The puppy stayed with us. Shortly after they set off, they were back. ED had a look on her face !! Looking at the gps, she had missed a sign right near our campsite. Walking along, YGS with a pencil for the cache, she glanced up and on a ridge above them, she caught a glance at the stomach and flank of a cougar ! Then she say a warning sign, " Cougar in area " Needless to say, she grabbed his hand, and they hustled back to the campsite. Then we noticed the bright yellow sign 30 feet from our campsite. a truck had blocked the sign that was now visible as he pulled out ! She and Hubby went to the office to report the siting. It had been seen at 9:30 am at the trail head about 50 yards from our site. Needless to say, we kept the boy close even going with him to the bathroom.
We had a good fire going and were just going to have a simple supper of hot dogs roasted over the campfire. The dogs were just done. when the storm hit ! And what a storm it was ! After the boy went to bed, we brought a light into the kitchen tent and we all read for a while before we went to bed. It rained all night .
Sunday, July 10 2016
We woke to the sound of rain, lots of rain ! We had a fairly leisurely breakfast in our dry kitchen tent and decided how we were going to pack up. We loaded the trailer, emptying the kitchen tent. Then ED was able to bring her tent right into the kitchen tent after we hauled out the big picnic table. So that was pretty well packed up dry except for the outer 'tarp' . YGS and the dogs sat in the car for over an hour as we packed up. I told YGS I would pay him for dogsitting ! They were nice and dry ! We were soaked ! We left the campground and the mountains at 11 am. The drive home was good with a top in Edson for gas and lunch. And then it was over. We parked the trailer with some difficulty as the ground was soft and the gravel to the entrance of the trailer pad had sunk. We unloaded what we could and ED and YGS set off for home........and returned shortly ! Her garage door opener would not work and she had left her keys inside the house. [ we are hoping it just needs a new battery ! ] So back they came and waited til my sons came back from their baseball tournament. So by 7, they were off home !
My sons had a wonderful time at their tournament, although games were delayed and cancelled because of the storms. They were quite wet and muddy . Some of their unpacking was done and they headed into the hot tub. I watched Outlander and then hit the hay.
It isi amazing how much plants grow in the space of 5 days. I have peas !! The mallow has blossomed [ ihad pulled several of the plants because I didn't know what they were ! ] The cherries are ripening, the potatoes have flowered and the beans are climbing.
Today laundry will be done and the trailer cleaned out. Now to ret after a very exciting 5 days.

Christmas Stockings
And speaking of Christmas Stockings.
These area few of the stockings that I have made recently. The last one was a special order for a Philadelphis Flyer fan. I have an order for six that I am starting this summer. I will also make a few extras so I have some stock when people decide at the last minute to order some !

Quite often the Hinton Walmart has had wool on sale as we've passed through so we will stop so I can have a look.
Departure Day !!
And finally we are down to Departure Day !!
Yesterday we pretty well packed up the trailer with just the coolers to fill and our personal stuff, clothes and towels. In fact YGS 's backpacks are already in the trailer !! He came over yeterday wearing his hiking backpack with the biggest grin on his face . Now we need the weather to cooperate.
YD loaned ED a portable 'fence' or playpen for the dogs so they can be off leash. We're loaded up with sunscreen and mosquito repellant- spray and candles. YGS really reacts to mosquito bites so he has in his'medi kit' as he calls it, some benadryl so we can dab the bites. He has his wallet with $5 so he can pick up a treat- probably at the Dollar Store in Hinton as $5 will buy nothing in Jasper.
I've had my shower so when Hubby wakes up I need to pack my bag. I've little piles of things I need to bring. The fleece ponchos I made for Christmas will finally be put to use. It gets cold in the mountains at night so we can cuddle up nice and warm by the fire.
ED is hoping to leave work at noon. That is quite iffy so we cannot count on a definite time. ES is coming to help hitch the trailer up and then we'll park it in front so when we get the call we can head over to pick up ED, YGS and the dogs ! The youngest dog has never travelled any distance and the older dog is nervous. We'll see how that goes !
Normally we stop for something to eat in Edson as we fill up;however with two dogs , we can no longer go into a retaurant. I will make a few sandwiches and vegetables to tide us over. Tonight we'll have a rotisserie chicken with salad . We could have instant mashed potatoes as well. If we have a campfire tonight we might make Campfire ice cream cones. An ice cream sugar cone with marshmallows and chocolate chips, wrapped in foil and onto the campfire. We'll see how they turn out. We'll put them in a pot of pan and rotate them. We've also got a watermelon to cut up !
I have my bag loaded with wool as I'll start a couple of Christmas Stockings. I'll tuck my ipad into it and my hexagons to sew when the lighting is good. I've brought two books thouogh I doubt I'll get much reading done.
I'm watching the Tour de France as I putter around. Hopefully I can keep track somewhere when I'm in the towns !

Lists, Lists and More Lists !
Watching the Tour de France yesterday morning, I started making lists; lists of food, equipment, clothing, and a list for ES 's packing for YGS. There is also a list here by my chair where I add things as they pop into my head . Wednesday morning I'll compile all the lists to make sure we have everything. [ no doubt we'll forget something ! ] Fortunately we are not too far from a fairly big town where we can pick something up if we direly need it. We pass by close to this town as we will travel from the campsite into the national park.
One thing we have left to do is to pack our bedding. Three years ago as I was recuperating from a knee replacement, I finished off these 5 quilts, all hand quilted ! They were all meant for camping, so in they'll go ! I checked the weather of the camp ground and it was only 4*C this morning !
Our little Trillium trailer is old; 45 years ! It is 6' x 9' !! We bought it in 2002 for $ 1 2000 as we were too old camp in our tent. We wanted to be off the ground and more protection as we usually camp where there are bears. Also we needed heat as it is often chilly in the Rocky Mountains. As we did more and more camping, we found we could have a site with electricity! So now we pack a long extension cord with a power bar. In Washington State it was brutally hot so we bought a small fan which kept us cool enough to sleep. We bought a small lamp so we could sit inside to read when the bugs became too bad. I'm thinking this time out we may put in a little electric heater . After all why use up our propane when we have electricity that we are paying for !
We've frozen bottles of water for the cooler so we won't have to get ice for a couple of days. All the meat will be frozen except for the rotisserie chicken we always buy for the first supper. No cooking the first night and the rest of the chicken is used up in pita pockets for our first lunch. We do plan to visit the National park the first two days, a little less traffic and tourists during the week. The weekend we'll spend at the provincial campground exploring.
We're getting organized !

Another Day Closer
The weather cannot make up its mind, one moment sunny and the next windy and cloudy with the temperature dropping. Hubby vacuumed the trailer and loaded most of what we need into it. Now our trailer is only 6' by 9'; there is not a lot of room ! ED is bringing a shelter so we can eat out of the rain and bugs and a small tent for herself and her dogs. YGS will sleep on the upper bunk. Hubby made a removable railing so he won't fall out. The bunks are very narrow. I'll sleep on the bottom one and Hubby has the 'table' bed.
My clematis is going gangbusters this year,It has completely covered the small window by the French doors. It is a good thing that we put new lattice up and secured it well. New grass that we sewed at the north end of the old pond area is starting to fill in. Flowers are showing on the peas. We must get out and thin the beets and carrots. All three different coloured Hollyhocks are now blooming, magenta. deep pink and white. Hopefully next year I'll have some yellow.
This is the start of my English Paper Piecing quilt. There will be 28 of these blocks [ 4 x 7 ] and they will be attached with white hexagons with a border of white and green hexagons - I think ! I'm on the fourteenth one now. The next quilt will be using up beiges, creams, taupes and purple with a few other odds and ends, in a more geometric pattern.
Our granddaughter is supposed to arrive shortly while her mom teaches some yoga. I'm sure YGS will be over to play with her. EGS is off racing with his dad in another province. We might try and take those two camping with us later in the summer.
I've some hamburger defrosting; now I just have to figure out what I am going to do with it.

Time to Get Organized
What a lovely day and evening we had yesterday ! ED had over 50 people at her backyard party. The food and c ompany were lovely; the rain held off til after I was asleep ! We left early - it really is a party for young people. I watched the beginning of Outlander as I missed it last Sunday due to Game of Thrones running to 69 minutes ! Then I headed up to bed, wakened only when the fireworks started ! they were tremendous fireworks this year. I can hardly wait til the show next year when Canada is 150 years old.
Yesterday I also watched the Canada Day celebrations from Ottawa- which I do every year. Since Justin Trudeau took office, I have seen a great change in the demeanor of our Governor General. He shows that he is genuinely pleased and happy with the direction our country is heading. He is joyful and it was he who started the dancing !! with glee ! There is genuine affection from our vice regals and the Trudeau family. So heart warming and nice to see.
Today all the scatter rugs and mats were gathered up - they won't go down until the rooms are clean ! Lists were made-- what wool I need to buy and menus for camping. Hubby brought up our old elctric kettle which we will bring camping. It'll be so much easier to make tea and hot water for washing dishes. Why use up our propane when we're paying for electricity ? We are even bringing our old toaster so breakfast will be a snap !
The Tour de France started this morning so I was up bright and early to watch while I sewed on the hexagon quilt. I think I have organized the pieces enough that I can bring some with me to do at the campsite and while the others are hiking. I will stay behind with the dogs and a chair.
It looks like the way the weather has been predicted that our garden should survive our absence. last year there was a heat wave and our plants in the vertical planter suffered. A good water and maybe a shot of fertilizer should do them through.
It's quite a dull day today and rain is predicted. A good day to relax, maybe figure out what books we'll bring to read, although I wonder how much of that we'll be able to do with a 6 year old and two dogs !

It's quite a dull day today and rain is predicted. A good day to relax, maybe figure out what books we'll bring to read, although I wonder how much of that we'll be able to do with a 6 year old and two dogs !

Happy Canada Day !!
Happy Canada Day !! We are 149 years old !
although thunderstorms are predicted for this evening.
When I looked out into the backyard this morning, I saw another hummingbird at the flowers.
A happy sight to start the day !
This summer my goal is to figure out how to get pictures on the blog. I'll have the time to figure it out, I hope !
Yesterday we , hopefully, were able to start the killing of weeds. I put some Weed Be Gone in the backyard. I did get over 3 hours of sunshine. Hubby did the front yard with the weed bar. We really don't like using chemicals, but having had neighbours who for years neglected their yards, we have been inundated with dandelions and even thistles in the back.
Late afternoon, we were hit with a tremendous thunderstorm, heavy rain and some hail. Some of the potatoes look very muddy and the beets and radishes tops were battered. I'm sure they'll all perk up with some sunshine. That was the first test of the sump pump and new weeping tile and it passed. Oh I hope we can redo the basement this year !
We'll see what the rest of the day brings.[ and why did the colour change all by itself ? }
