There is s omething about the Fall that just gets one ' into gear'. Probably with the looming threat of winter, one knows one has to get things done. The trailer was tarped, more leaves raked and the garden tidied. I think tonight we will have our first frost.I gathered a few more seeds yesterday and then I noticed the rosehips. Instead of cleaning more windows[ I did get the large bedroom windows done] or the oven cleaned[ I had the oven cleaner out] I gathered rosehips and a few crabapples. I put them into my jelly bag to drip all night. The juice was put into the fridge; I'll deal with it later.
Hubby and YS secured the old leanto roof so we shouldn't lose it in the winter. Next spring, they'll build a new one.We still have a gazillion leaaves to rake and the snow shovels to be put out at the ready.
For lunch I made tuna melts. It was cold working outside and we needed something hot ! which is the reason I didn't clean the oven -- I needed to use it ! This morning I checked the flyers on line. Superstore had turkeys on for $0.85/ pound which is the cheapest I've seen for a few years. Also they had spiral hams on for a good price. I had to see if ED had room in her freezer for a turkey as ours is quite stuffed ! We had the ham for supper and it is just delicious ! It's huge so a few weekday suppers will be very easy. I also cooked extra potatoes from the garden and Monday night's supper will be very easy ! I've got to finish dealing with the seeds from the butternut squash. I'll toast some and keep a few seeds back to grow in the polytunnel next summer. On Thursday we'll pick up another turkey and ham. You have to stock up on the sales when they happen.
The landlord or an rental agent turned up next door and spent a long time in the house. It will be interesting to see if painters and new carpet etc, show up. I don't think she saw the pile of trash by the garage !! When we rented we treated the rental as our own and kept it spotless, inside and out.
ES asked me for my apple crisp recipe as the other grandmother has a prolific apple tree and gave him some. I don't have a recipe. After 42 years of cooking I just do it ! Hopefully she gives him more and I will dehydrate them as freezer room is at a premium.
Sundays are 'my day' I take long shoers, do my hair, fiddle with this and that. If I have recorded any shows, I try and watch them while I knit or sew. Sunday nights are also great for tv. PBS especially. Saturdays are for the things that absolutely must get done, and on Sundays I can pick and choose what I want to do at any pace I decide.
