The wind is beginning to pick up and the skies are darkening. By this evening we're supposed to have snow with a windchill around the. _30* mark. The cold is sweeping down from Alaska . Oh yeah...... The last few winters have been fairly mild so we are not looking forward to the next ten days or so. Yesterday we were up to 4*C and it was lovely. Now we're battening down the hatches. Winter clothing out and extension cords for the block heaters. And the tea is on !
It was a busy week. There were parent - teacher interviews, book fair and report cards. My assignment has changed. I'll be in a grade 7 French Immersion class so that'll keep me busy.WE have 3 straight weeks of school until Christmas break, not finishing until the 23rd .The kids have not been the best behaved the past week, I can hardly w it to see what they'll be like this week. NOT !!
I am the one strange sister in the family; I do not like shopping. On Thursday night, YS and I went into a kitchen shop owned by a member of the baseball team. Beautiful high end wares. I was able to buy all my gifts for my chosen person. It was a ten % off night with wine and cheese. I remember being shocked when I asked for a total and went and bought some more things !! They gave me 15% off the item and then 10% off the total ! [ and the wine and cheese were delicious.] Downtown Edmonton was beautiful with all the lights in the snow.
Saturday I tackled 4 Christmas stockings. Two for a sale and two for YGS's grandparents. YS is going to bring the two stockings into work... To people can see. Who knows I may get some new orders !This morning I tackled the last one, for ED's youngest dog. I've finished the sixth row of the quilt and have just started the seventh and last row.
Early this morning Hubby and I went grocery shopping . We were able to pick up some Christmas gifts as well. The order was high enough that we were able to get a free turkey !! It is nestled in the homemade cooler on the deck that Hubby made. We've never used it in the summer, but it is a great thing to have for extra food in the winter. Hubby complains about prices, but we have a huge upright freezer that is stuffed to the gills as well as the fridge top freezer. If Christmas was tomorrow I would be all set ! Except of course I would need some Brussel Sprouts ! Can't have Christmas dinner without the sprouts.
YS and I were talking about Christmas. We need our stockings, turkey, mashed potato stuffing balls and sprouts. Everything else is just extra ! I've enough butter for a couple of batches of shortbread. Good thing I bought it weeks ago as the store was out. Problem with a supplier they said.
We're having our two eldest grandchildren for two or three days this week as sil is on a business trip. As we are not absolutely sure which days, the menu is flexible this week. GD loves shepherd's pie and I've a frozen meat lasagne ready to pop in the oven. If we have a third night, I'll meet meatloaf. Good thing I picked up two huge packages of ground beef. I need something that is able to sit as we have piano lessons, cheer and swimming practice ! Tonight we are having roast beef with roasted potatoes, corn and salad. I might even make a butterscotch square. Tomorrow it'll be leftover roast. I'll throw in some chicken or sausages for a couple of meals, maybe even some frittata although we had that for lunch this past Saturday.
Es just came over for a cordless drill. They are putting up their outdoor lights in this windy cold weather ! He said they've been running in and out of the house trying to keep warm !!
And for a bit of a laugh, YGS thinks his other grandfather is really boring !! However that man lost his father when he was seven and didn't know how to father. But we still think it is funny !
